Points or Cash tells you whether to use points or pay cash for a trip, where your points can transfer, which lounges you can use, whether the train beats the plane, and what paperwork you need. The guides are free and public; Mila, the advisor, is invite-only for now.
Points or cash, decided
One answer for the trip: use points, or pay cash and keep them.
- Mila checks the live cash fare and what the same seat costs in points, using published award charts and researched sweet spots.
- She works out what each point is worth against that fare, adds the taxes and surcharges, and weighs the hours and connections too.
- You get one recommendation and at most one backup, with the reason in a line. "Pay cash" is a normal answer.
- Live award-seat search is not switched on yet, so she tells you to confirm the seat on the airline’s site before you transfer.
“Brussels to New York in business in March. I have 120k Amex. Points or cash?”
Ask thisWhere your points can go
Every transfer partner, at the ratio for the country your card comes from.
- 42 card currencies, from the US banks to Amex country by country in Europe, Revolut and banks in Canada, Asia-Pacific, India and the Gulf.
- 67 airline and hotel programs, each with every card that transfers to it.
- Transfer bonuses as they run (8 live now), with end dates.
- In the app, Mila checks whether your balances cover the award before you move anything. Transfers can’t be undone.
“I have 80k Amex Belgium. Can I get to Flying Blue, and at what ratio?”
Ask thisThe lounges you can use
Lounge access by card, ticket, status and Priority Pass at 214 airports.
- Card benefits by issuing country, because a Belgian Amex Platinum doesn’t open the same doors as a US one.
- Guest rules, the recent changes, and lounges where Priority Pass members get turned away.
- Denied at the door? Report it, and the airport page shows it to the next traveller.
“I fly Brussels to Singapore via Doha with an Amex Platinum. Which lounges can I use?”
Ask thisTrain or plane
33 European routes where the train might beat the flight, door to door.
- Door-to-door time, trains per day, and when the flight still wins.
- Air & Rail tickets that earn miles, and Club Eurostar: what a ticket costs in points and when to pay cash.
- In Dutch and French for travellers starting in Belgium.
“Brussels to London on Friday: train or plane?”
Ask thisBefore you fly, and after
The paperwork around the trip, from official sources.
- Before: a checklist for the US by passport. ESTA or visa, the Mobile Passport Control app, and Global Entry country by country.
- After: what EU261 owes you for a delay or cancellation, with a letter to claim it yourself. No claims company.
- Private jet airports and terminals by city, if you’re flying private.
“I have a Belgian passport and fly to Miami in May. What do I need?”
