Dutch and German passport holders can apply for Global Entry. Belgians can't, but from their second ESTA trip the free MPC app gets them into a faster line.

Global Entry, the US programme that lets members use kiosks on arrival, is open to US citizens and residents and to citizens of 23 partner countries. Neighbours like the Netherlands and Germany are on the list. Belgium is not.

The alternative: Mobile Passport Control

The Mobile Passport Control app from US Customs and Border Protection is free and needs no sign-up. You scan your passport into the app before the trip and submit it after landing, then use the MPC lane. One phone can submit up to 12 people. CBP lists it at 37 US international airports and at US preclearance abroad, including Dublin.

The catch: CBP opens it to returning ESTA travellers. On your first trip on an ESTA, you use the regular line.

If you're Dutch or German

Global Entry costs $120 for five years and includes TSA PreCheck. Each partner country adds its own step: the Dutch set up a Berichtenbox first, and Germans take their PASSID to the Federal Police. You still need your ESTA.

What to do

Install the MPC app before your second US trip and fill in your profile at home. Our checklist shows what applies to your passport, with the official links.
