Method

The score counts the countries a passport holder can enter for a short visit without arranging a visa in advance: visa free, visa on arrival, or an online travel authorisation (ESTA, eTA, ETA).E-visas and visas are shown separately and do not count.
198 destinations: the countries that issue their own passports. Territories are not counted, and where the source has no entry for a pair (often Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong or Kosovo) it is left out for that passport.
Free movement: EU, EEA and Swiss citizens count each other's countries as visa free.
Short visits only. Work, study and long stays have their own rules, and some countries add conditions (a return ticket, a passport valid for six months). Check the official site of your destination before you book.

How strong is my passport?

Pick it under Your passport to see its rank, its score and every country it opens. The US passport ranks =33 with 150, the UK passport =17 with 153; the big EU passports sit between 152 and 156.

What counts as "without a visa"?

Visa free entry, a visa issued on arrival, and an online travel authorisation such as the US ESTA, the Canadian eTA or the UK ETA. These need no embassy visit, so they count. An e-visa is listed separately: it is quick, but it is a visa you apply for before you travel.

Why is this different from the Henley Passport Index?

Each index uses its own data and rules. Henley uses IATA data and counts territories; this index uses Wikipedia's visa requirement articles and counts 198 countries that issue their own passports.
