Your company can earn on your flights too.

Airline programs for companies pay the business on top of the miles you keep. Here is how bluebiz, PartnerPlusBenefit and On Business work, and what they are worth.

On a company-paid flight two accounts can earn: yours (your own miles) and the company's, if it is in the airline's program for companies. bluebiz pays about 3% of the fare back in blue credits; PartnerPlusBenefit and On Business pay points per euro or pound spent. All three are free to join.

Two accounts, one ticket

The company earns in its program; you keep earning in yours.

Example: Amsterdam to New York in business on KLM, 2,000 € of fare and surcharges, paid by your company.

  1. Your company, in bluebiz, gets 60 blue credits, worth about 60 € towards its next flights.
  2. You get your Flying Blue miles and status on the same ticket, as on any paid flight.
  3. Your own points stay untouched. Using them here would only save the company money.

Questions

Can my company and I both earn on the same flight?

Yes. The company program credits the company, and your frequent flyer number on the same booking earns your own miles as usual. Add both numbers to every booking: the company number (bluebiz, PartnerPlusBenefit contract or On Business) and your own (Flying Blue, Miles & More, the BA Club).

Should I use my own points on a trip the company pays for?

Usually not. The cash fare costs you nothing, and the cash ticket earns you miles. Spending your own points only saves the company money, unless it pays you back for them. Mila asks who pays before she values an award.

Which program should a small company join?

The one for the airlines you fly most: bluebiz for Air France and KLM, PartnerPlusBenefit for Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Brussels Airlines, On Business for British Airways, Iberia and American. All three are free to join, and a company can be in more than one.

What is a blue credit worth?

About 1 euro when you redeem it for flights, upgrades or extras on Air France and KLM. At 3 credits per 100 €, bluebiz pays back about 3% of the fare once the company passes 5,000 € of flights in the year.

Do award tickets earn company credits?

No. bluebiz says tickets paid with Flying Blue miles earn no blue credits, and the other programs count tickets the company paid for.

A work trip? Mila asks who pays.

Tell her the trip and the points you hold. If the company pays, she tells you to keep your points and what the ticket earns you and the company.
