Points or Cash is made in Antwerp, Belgium, by the Points or Cash team (GJ Consultancy BV). We check transfer ratios against each bank's own catalogue where it publishes one, country by country, log every change with its date, take no card referral fees, and tell you to pay cash when cash wins.
Much points advice is paid for by the cards it recommends, and much of it is written for American cards. Points or Cash is made in Belgium, where an Amex point becomes half a Flying Blue mile (2:1), against a full mile in the UK (1:1). Advice written for one country often doesn't hold in another.
So the answer starts from your trip, the points you actually hold and the ratio for the country your card was issued in. Mila is the assistant that gives it; the numbers behind her are checked by the Points or Cash team.
How we check the numbers
- Transfer ratios come from each bank's own catalogue, per issuing country, where it publishes one. Where it doesn't, from dated sources we name, marked as such.
- Every change gets a date in the ratio watch, and our own mistakes go in its corrections log.
- Ratios, and the data pages show when they were last checked.
- Real bookings from travellers are checked against their screenshots before we publish them as trip reports.
- The maths is the same every time and published in How Mila works.
What we won't do
- Take card referral fees. A card that pays us could change the answer, so no card pays us.
- Let a partner change a verdict. If we ever earn from a booking partner, it is shown after the verdict, labelled, and pays the same whichever airline wins.
- Sell or share your data for marketing. See the privacy policy.
- Call a redemption good when paying cash is better.
