Navan Rewards or hotel points?

Your company's booking tool may pay you for picking a cheaper hotel. Here is what it pays, what it can cost you in points, and what the taxman says.

Navan Rewards pays you part of the savings when you book a hotel below the "Price to Beat", as credit for personal hotel stays on Navan (Navan pays, not your employer; it expires after 12 months). The catch: cheaper rates often earn no Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt points or elite nights. Compare the credit with the points the chain stay would earn. Perk, Concur and Egencia pay travellers nothing themselves.

How Navan Rewards works

From Navan's own pages and terms, with older or unconfirmed points marked.

HowEvery hotel search shows a 'Price to Beat': a dynamic target based on location, dates and demand, set below the company's policy limit (the prospectus calls it a median price for the location and time). Book below it and, after the stay, earn a share of the difference.

The trade-off: credit or chain points

A cheaper hotel earns Navan credit; a loyalty-eligible chain rate earns points and elite nights.

Navan credit = your share of (Price to Beat − the cheaper hotel's price). Only spendable on Navan hotels.

Chain stay = points earned × what a point is worth to you (see hotel points: about 0.75¢ for Marriott, 0.4¢ for Hilton, 1.65¢ for Hyatt), plus the elite night if you need it.

Check the rate in Navan: Only on eligible rates. Navan says rates that don't earn loyalty points also show in search alongside rates that do. OTA-type rates earn nothing at Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt

Ask Mila with both prices and she works it out.

Questions

How does Navan Rewards work?

Every hotel search shows a "Price to Beat", set below your company's policy limit. Book a hotel under it and, after the stay, you get part of the difference as Navan Rewards credit. Navan pays for it, not your employer. You can spend it on personal hotel stays booked on Navan, and it expires 12 months after you earn it.

How much do you earn with Navan Rewards?

A share of the savings below the Price to Beat. Navan doesn't publish the share. A cap of about $100 per booking was reported in May 2023; we couldn't confirm it for 2026. Travel assistants who book for others earn up to 1.5% on in-policy hotel stays.

Do I still earn hotel points when I book through Navan?

Only on rates that earn loyalty points. Navan shows those next to rates that don't, and Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt give no points or elite nights on third-party rates. Check that the rate earns points and that your member number is on the booking.

Is a cheaper Navan hotel better than a chain hotel with points?

Compare the two in money: the Rewards credit (which you can only spend on Navan hotels) against the points the chain stay earns, valued at what you'd really get for them, plus any elite nights you need. For someone chasing status, the chain stay often wins; for someone without a hotel program, the credit does.

Is Navan Rewards credit taxable?

We found no tax ruling on booking-tool rewards in the US, UK, Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium. Rules for airline miles exist (see the table), but a reward for saving the employer money may be treated differently. Navan's terms leave tax to the traveller and the employer. Ask your payroll team.

Does Perk (TravelPerk) have rewards for travellers?

No. Perk's hotel rebate goes to the company. Travellers keep their own airline and hotel points if they add their numbers.

Checked by the Points or Cash team on 5 November 2026. Company airline programs (bluebiz, PartnerPlusBenefit, On Business): company airline rewards.

Cheaper hotel or chain points?

Tell Mila both prices, the Price to Beat and your hotel program. She values the credit against the points and says which to book.
